Sinigang Recipe
My mouth is watering just from looking at the picture above. This is the Filipino soup I made last night. If you guys miss out on my snap. I share a lot of my recipes on there lol. (@AlanaDawn23) Anyway, this is a soup I used to have growing up in a filipino home, Its a sour soup, but not too sour. If that makes any sense. You just have to make it and try it. I made mine in a pressure cooker so I just there everything in there and It was done in 45minute. (because I wanted the meat falling of the bone, otherwise you could get it done sooner.)
What you need:
- 2 TBS Cooking Oil
- 1lb of Meat ( I mixed in, Oxtail, with 5 chicken legs, and some thinly sliced beef)
- 4-5 bok choy
- .5lbs of green beans
- 1 onion
- 2 plum tomatos
- 1 lemon
- small piece of ginger cut into small pieces.
- Daikon
- 2tbs of fish sauce
- 4tbs of tamarind paste
- 4 cups of water
I love using this Tamarind Paste because its organic, non-gmo, and No-MSG. which makes me happy :) You can purchase online or from Wholefoods market.
Cooking Directions in a Pressure Cooker or Crockpot:
Pressure Cooker:
- chop up all the vegetables: dice tomatoes, onions, and ginger, also cut the green beans in half and cut the slices of daikon in fourths so they aren't so big.
- In the pressure cooker, use about 2 tbs of oil, then saute the onion and meat first until the onion is brown and soft.
- Next pour in about 4 cups of water, 2 tbs of fish sauce, and 4 tbs of tamarind paste, and juice of 1 lemon. Now set the timer for about 25minutes. (you have an option to put in the vegetables in now but they might get too mushy so I like to cook the meat first.)
- I wait until the 25 minutes is over, let all the steam out, put the rest of the vegetables in and cook it for about 5 minutes.
- and then it is PERFECT!
- Serve with a side of white rice.
Crockpot.
Follow steps 1-3 and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. Then throw all the vegetables in in the last hour. Serve with rice. I purchase the frozen rice from Trader Joes, its ready in a couple minutes. :)
